Revival

I am reviving this blog in the name of....well, lots. In the name of me turning 22, in the name of me achieving what i've wanted all my life, in the name of...well like i said, lots.

22nd Birthday was one I hadn't had in years. Can't remember the last time i actually had a cake-cutting-ceremony...10 years back? Maybe longer. But it has been one of the best birthdays i've had in many many many years.

Thanks everyone, for coming...I would've asked a lot more people to come but birthdays were never quite my thing so keeping a small group was the idea in case anything went completely wrong. And what went wrong...my cake almost got burnt down! It was hilarious man...thanks again everyone...words can never quite say how much it means. Bless you all...

What else has happened...the unthinkable did. It was my 21st birthday resolution to get into a dance competition...what i had in mind was somewhat a latin & ballroom competition. What i got was a bollywood dance competition. And...i got through the Regional Finals...and...i made it to the UK Finals...and...the Regional Finals is gonna be aired on TV. I always secretly fantasized being on TV...thinking what it would be like. Now I am. And it hasn't really sunk in. Never in my wildest dreams did i think...from the simple life i led, brought up in small malacca town, almost gave up dance, came to UK, thought migration to UK would mean the end of dance...but it was a whole new chapter to begin. I am somewhat overwhelmed with all that has happened. Competition, TV, teaching...I have nothing more to ask for. Bless this world.

What a Day...

It's the end of another week...should I be glad that it's over, or glad that a fresh new week starts soon? Everything has been really hectic. Then again, it has been that way for some time now. I've been contemplating on shutting down the whole blog for a while now...thing is, there's a lot to say, but not much to share with the big strange world.
Today's been an average day...started out bad, ended up good. Went for dance classes in the morning and had my blood pressure completely boiled up there...then went out with some friends to the seaside. I've been thinking of quitting the dance group for quite some time now...it's not that I hate it...coz I love it to bits. What gets on my nerves so badly are how the locals here have a cocked up attitude towards everything. This isn't the first time I've noticed it. I go for other dance classes here and they actually start grumbling if the dance studio isn't opened up into two studios, or if the music isn't loud enough or...here's the best one, and I got this one today: Coz the sunshine is coming directly into the studio and I can't dance with the sun on my face. And they actually stopped short in the middle of a routine to say that, then ran to the nearest shield from sun. All these from girls in their 20s. Half the time they turn up late, or not at all. And when they DO turn up, they expect miracles. I sincerely find it hard to go on with them...I've been thinking of quitting for quite some time now. On one hand, it's the one thing that keeps me going, it's been my dream ever since young, and I'm living my dream. On the other hand, it has become so emotionally stressful, that it's starting to fade as a passion and rise as more of a chore.
What should I do, or where should I go from here...I haven't the faintest clue...

It's the weekend already....that's 3 weeks of Second Semester shoved down the drain. Another 9 weeks of studies and it's the end of Second year...let's not get to that just yet. Days have been hectic...they've led to months now.
Am kinda unsure of my destination...I've worked hard for my courses so far but the degree programme in itself is an unusual one. A joint degree is what I'm doing...and I have no freaking idea of what my job aspects are like. It's not like I've not crossed this path of not knowing what I want and what future looks like...I've never quite planned my future at all. All throughout schooldays I always chose subjects I liked studying even though I hadn't a clue where they were leading. And it's that path again...except this time it's somewhat alarming. Am gonna have to start making mega-decisions soon. That's not all...am thinking of quitting my dance group too. I love it dearly but it's all starting to get very emotionally stressful. I know quitting the group isn't going to be easy...probably will be impossible. Maybe even out of question if I told them...quite a tight situation at the moment. But if it really were the tiniest bit possible...I might consider quitting it. Am thinking of venturing completely into European dances...well, namely the Tango. I love every aspect of it...the motion, the strength, the raw passion...everything about it. Dunno if this is just a passing phase I'm having right now or..? Well time will tell....truth is this isn't the first time I've thought about quitting my dance group and venturing Tango...been thinking about this for quite some time now.

Takes Two to Tango

"Danger and violence confronted the world across the whole of twentieth century. The women and man of tango kept going, turning outrage into a song. The brave made abstractions of vicissitude. Small wonder that "Cambalanche" became an anthem of the tangueros, women and men who organize their lives around tango music, and milongueros, women and men who organize their lives around the dance. Strong in stance, sure in motion, they gave the century a set of moves that spanned the whole globe that are with us forever" - R.F.Thomson

Finally...Time Spared

This has been the most demanding semester so far. It's currently wednesday, another 2 more days till semester end, and I think I can finally breathe now. Hopefully. Fingers crossed. The past few weeks...well actually, the past few MONTHS have been downright stressful with assignments and homework and classes and deadlines and practices and...well, other stuff. But it has also been the most enjoying semester. I dunno how I did it, but somehow I've managed to squeeze in a life in between all these uni work...and I'm glad I did. Life is beautiful.

The past month, especially, has been the busiest. Leave home at 9am and return home at 9pm, sometimes 10pm. Most of the time at uni trying to crack my bloody brains on java programs. I've had this lecturer this semester...who's so bloody disorganized. He does things at his own whim, changes project formats and sends out penalty-warnings just 2 days before deadline, and never quite tells you what's the marking like. It probably doesn't sound like a big deal to anyone reading this but believe me, it is. But it's lecturers like him that make me work my ass off. I dare admit I have never ever EVER worked this hard over a subject EVER in my lifetime. I honestly hope it pays off...at least with a decent passing mark. There's still another 2 more days to my current project's deadline so let's just hope he doesn't change anything till then...fingers crossed tight.

Christmas is coming and it's that magical time again. Walk along shops and beautiful songs echo past. Most houses here have already put up christmas decorations. Shopping malls have mile-long queues at counters and everyone's just rushing to get to the counter fast enough so they wouldn't miss their favourite soap opera at dinnertime. But all that's just part of christmas.

Semester ends in two days and for me, a whole new challenge begins then : a concert for the new year. It's a long shot...and for some reason something tells me I'm not gonna pull it off...but I will bloody attempt it anyway. Two handful of dances to pull together in 3 weeks...I have never done anything like that before. And to be honest...it's already starting to get hard. One person makes it to practice one day, and ten other people don't make it. And if someone doesn't get a routine in 5 minutes, you hear all sorts of grumbling and sulking. But they want a whole elegant set of routines presented to them. Gawd, guys...grow up. The children's group have been so much more committed to this show. I get frustrated coz I've really put in a lot of sweat. I know I have. And all I want out of them is to give it their best shot. And as surprising as this sounds....I just KNOW that if everyone gives it their best shot...it is going to look really good. The thing with most concerts is...it doesn't matter how complex or how simple a routine is. If everyone does it synchronized...it always looks fabulous. Well anyways I better shut up before I get all technical on routines. I'm hoping to pull it all off...but if I don't, I will always try again.
